Gas tanks are generally easy to remove, If you are suspecious it would be worth it to pull the tank and dispose of the gas that is in it. I would recomend syphoning the gas but if it is sugar that won't necesarily remove all the resedue. Water in the gas in small quantities won't hurt, but any more than condensation in the tank or bad gas from the pump can destroy the engine too, because water doesn't compress you can blow a head gasket or ruin pistons.

I recomend you pull the tank and buy a gas cap with a lock...

That is very illegal. Sugar or salt would be very detrimental...really, nearly anything would. Find out who did and procecute if possible. In the intermim, buy a lockable gas cap and do the same on all subsequent vehicles. Just because a car has the interior release latch, doesn't stop anyone, the gas cap needs to lock, too.

It depends on the substance added to the fuel tank. If they put gasoline in your gas tank, the engine would run. Likewise with a fuel injector cleaner, or alcohol!

Other things, such as water, may cause the engine to run poorly or not at all. Some substances can cause damage to fuel injectors, or to the engine itself. Some things may clog the fuel filter!

More information as to what you substance you are asking about would help.

Depends what they put in your tank? Diesel fuel would not be a good thing for a gasoline engine... There used to be a dirty trick that people played on other people to wreck there cars engine but I won't go into what that is all about.

Put what in it. More gas? Nothing. Moth balls may or may not destroy it. It would be a temporary boost, almost like higher octane, and may cause knocking. Sugar or salt would to nothing unless mixed with water and alcohol. Taking a crap in it might clog the filter. Epoxy/acrylic enamel would cause big problems. Gunpowder could be an issue. Lettuce, cucumbers, and corn, not sure.

water, and sugar just cause the engine to run really badly, but you would have to have the gas tank drained....buy a locking gas cap and keep the key on your key ring

It depends on what was put in...if it was marbles, nothing but a lot of noise.
Sugar...you need a new engine...if you started it & ran it.
Water, dry gas may help if it isn't a lot.
Anything else, is anyones guess...

I want to know what happens. Going through divorce and the girlfriend is living with him now and my 4 year old car just needed a new alternator and I fixed it but still clunks when driving. Almost like it wants to die. Almost like a transmission problem. Chrysler 200 2011. Someone please answer me. What do you think? Am I being paranoid?

most things like water or dirt or just about anything else would just clog things up and create a need to clean the fuel system ... other things like suger for example actually disolve in the fuel and when it burns in the engine it will cause the internal parts to stick, overheat, and seize up ... destroying the motor basically

It would depend on what they put in it. If they put a moth ball in it the engine would get so hot it would melt. Sugar does wonderous things to an engine too. My ex put mud in mine and I had to have it taken out and cleaned.
