You CAN have a period even if not ovulating. Make sure you follow the directions on the kit to a t- it may just be a human error. You may want to schedule an appointment with your doctor to determine if you are indeed ovulating.

Yes--you need to ovulate and actually release an egg to get pregnant. You may not be ovulating.

Can I have a period and still not have ovulated?

Having a period does not necessarily mean that ovulation has taken place. Some women may have what is called an anovulatory cycle, (meaning no ovulation) and can experience some bleeding which is mistaken for a period, but it is actually not a true period. This bleeding is caused by either a buildup in the uterine lining that can no longer sustain itself or by an estrogen level drop. The main way to decipher if ovulation is in fact taking place is by tracking the body temperature.

You can not get pregnant if you are not ovulating and you will not have a period if you are not ovulating. You are most likely ovulating at a time frame which isnt in 28 days. You have to ovulate to have a period. It is best to start testing for ovulation the last day of your period.

You need to ovulate to get pregnant- ovulating means you are releasing and egg to be fertilized by sperm. If you're not ovulating, then there is no egg to be fertilized. Make sure you're testing around the time you should be ovulating (approx 14 days from the first day of your last period-you count the days of your period). If you're not ovulating (look for other signs like cervical mucus, twinges in the lower abdomen) you need to speak to your doctor.
