Which of these southern Appalachian states is your favorite? Not-so-favorite? Why?

Favorites:
1. Alabama. Nice people, gorgeous scenery, has the beaches at the south end of the state. Lots of history and culture, a great state!
2. Tennessee. Great mountain scenery, lots to do in the Smokies, Nashville and Memphis are great cities! I wouldn't mind living in Greater Memphis (not the inner city area, though, b/c it's crime-ridden and grimy.) Overall, another great state!
3. North Carolina. Honestly, I've never been there, but I just think I'd like it.

Least favorites:
1. Virginia. Beautiful scenery, lots of job opportunities, close to the historical sights of the birthplace of America. BUT, the people are rude and uptight. Wouldn't wanna live there.
2. Kentucky. There are two types of people in Kentucky: 1. rich, uptight snobs and 2. poor, white trash people who are still pretentious. Some of the worst people I've ever met are there. The scenery is GREAT, though.

PLUS, the cost of living in Kentucky is greatly overpriced given it's slow rate of economic growth. Also, many of its small towns still have the "old establishment" in place, preventing them into growing to their full potential in terms of economic and educational opportunities.

I am from KY and your comment offends me:
North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Virginia, or Georgia?

First I'm going with my home state NC. Sorry but I love big a$$ mountains and beautiful water. I like Georgia tho y'all always stay hyped. Since I've traveled through all these states, I really have 2 say NC being first & Tennessee being second. For one NC & Ten share some mountains 2gether if nobody had not realized or haven't went thru the mountains. Tennessee has nice mountains too but not even west Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky, Arkansas, have nun on the NC mountains. Its fun in the NC Appalachian. I just warn ppl that are visiting or wutever don't speed through those mountains cuz they will either make or break yo a$$ js
#NC

My favorite of all is not in your list. It's Arkansas. The least favorite is Tennessee. Arkansas because of the Ozarks which they say is the foothills of the Appalachians but they are remote and beautiful. The people there are so very nice. Least favorite is because of the people there. I was broke down in Hendersonville, TN and called for roadside asst. and all I could get was one smart a*% after another. Not a very nice place. I stayed in the only motel there that same night and the towels were molded and stunk bad. Outside were hookers running around all over the place. Bad experience. I ate at the local truck stop there and ordered a French Dip Sandwich. What I got was two pieces of bread with tiny bits of ground hamburger. Every time you dipped it, all the meat would fall out. I couldn't wait to get out of the state...

I have been to all those states. What I LOVE about the USA is that there is such a cool difference in the landscape and attractions each state has to offer. Out of the states you mentioned I like Tennessee and Virginia.
Tennessee for having so much to do and great scenery.
Virginia for being upscale, historic, and scenic.
WE just went to Kentucky (Mammoth Cave) which is beautiful but it is a boring state. All it has is scenery, nothing fun to do down there.

I lived in both Kentucky and North Carolina. If I had to go back to one, it would be NC. The state is beautiful and the people are nice. Kentucky is further north, so it's colder during the winter.

North Carolina is by far the best of these states and here's why:

South Carolina has very few mountains compared to North Carolina because South Carolina does not extend as far west as North Carolina where the mountains are most populous.
You can drive from the mountains of North Carolina to the outerbanks and have the best of both worlds while traveling by/through Raleigh, Charlotte, Winston-Salem and Wilmington.
North Carolina is home to the largest home in America, the Biltmore House, www.biltmore-house.com
The scenery in North Carolina is breath-taking. Western North Carolina is home to 16 waterfalls and the foliage is amazing.
From big-city life to outdoor activities like whitewater rafting and hiking, it's all here.
Because North Carolina is not as far south as some of these states, it does not get quite as hot in the summer, but is still plenty hot enough to go swimming in the ocean.
North Carolina is also the birthplace or home of many famous authors, singers, athletes, etc.

You're right that you would like North Carolina. You should visit as soon as you get the chance!

I live in KY and you are totally generalizing. There are quite a few people, like myself, that aren't rich snobs, and aren't hillbillies. The cost of living is not high. We pay less sales tax than TN. We pay less for a lot of things than the rest of the country. We have a pretty good economy because we have several large corporations with their headquarters here. UPS has its hub here. Ford has 2 plants here. There is a lot more. And lets not forget about the scenery.

I have been to all those states, but I like Georgia. It is very pretty around Perry, and the people are so friendly. There are a lot of beautiful trees and I like the way the state has some of their highways landscaped.
