Girls nowadays tend to get their periods earlier because of all the hormones in the food we eat. I am 37, and got my first period at 13. It does vary for every person, but today I think 11-15 is about the norm.

From The Age 9-16 is around when puberty first starts. If you are looking specificly for signs when her period will come then Vaginal discharge is something to look for. (White or Yellow stuff on her underwear) That's a sign her period is on her way.

The real normal is ages 8- 15, so as soon as you see hair growing in place that's not normal(inculeing armpits) then you know it's coming soon, I'm 11 and I'm turning 12 in Oct., I'm not close, I'm still waiting for something.(and it's has nothing to do with bras, I'm wearing them.)

It really depends on the child. The first sign of puberty is pubic hair and underarm hair. If you find both of those, then the period will come along soon.
