Strange as it may sound, some men start to feel pregnant while their wife or girlfriend is expecting. They even show similar symptoms. The real name is called Couvade Syndrome or "sympathetic pregnancy." http://www.babycenter.com/poll/expectingdads/pregnancy/1337560.html

Yes sympathy pregnancy symptoms are very real to the partner of the pregnant wife/girlfriend. Men actually have morning sickness and can experience back pain during labor. It is due to the attachment and psycological changes that take place for both partners during a pregancy especially the first. Both are very excited about the forth coming birth and the husband is very much in tune with his partner and how she is feeling. Sometimes all she has to do is say "Oh I don't feel so good, and he is up and gone to the bathroom doing the gagging for her". It's true is does happen.

I know that there is a sympathy pregnancy that happens with the father of the baby. My boyfriend used to feel nauseous and bloated through my second trimester... but I myself have also felt , I guess the only thing to call it is a sympathy pregnancy, where I want to be pregnant so bad, that my body starts acting as if it is pregnant. It happens a lot with dogs, it's a miscarraige for them, but they feel and act pregnant for quite a time after the fetus is gone. Stress makes your period late, and when you are thinking about pregnancy you get stressed, but then I get sick in the morning, afternoon, and night... I cry at EVERYTHING... I got my thyroid checked thinking it was off balance, but it's fine. I am just about 3 days late.... but I feel it, it's an awful feeling, because deep down inside I know that I can't be pregnant. well, anyway back to you, yes I have heard of it, and it happened to me, and I don't think it is as rare as people think. The group of women that I work with, six of us, we are all on the same cycle now..because we are around eachother so much.. it's the same thing with babies. peace.

Actually it happens very often. I heard a very interesting report on the radio about it the other day.
It can go that far that some men even feel labor pain. That's weired.
Other symptoms such as morning sickness, weight gain, water retention are quite often to be seen. Maybe it is because a couple is close and pregnancy is a very important thing they share.

I've heard of sympathy pains, where if a friend is in pain and you see them and care for them a lot, you start feeling the same way as them...
but i don't think you can get pregnant just from being sympathetic...
unless it is like you have pregnancy symptoms including a late period etc...so it feels as though you are pregnant (without actually carrying a child) cause that could make sense.
plus women that live together and are really close, get their periods at the same time, so if you live with a woman who is pregnant and not getting her period, yours might be thrown off in which case you could percieve yourself as pregnant and then your mind would start imagining pregnancy symptoms (the mind is weird like that..)

Yes, but in reality, it is a VERY rarely occurring phenomenon. It is really a mental then physical condition, but I do know of a woman who has been treated for two sympathy (or contrived) pregnancies. Contact me if you have any more questions or want to know more about the specifics. I don't want to broadcast this woman's personal tragedy.

Yes. It's when someone (usually the father-to-be) experiences symptoms of pregnancy even though they are not (and most often cannot be) pregnant. Symptoms include weight gain, nausea, etc.
There's a forum about it here:

Kind of. I've heard of the fathers suffering from the mother's syptoms. Nausea, and heartburn, backache and I've even heard of men feeling labor pains when it was time for her to deliver.( although the father of MY kids never did, unfortunately)

Yes it happens a lot. Men can exhibit morning sickness, fatigue, weight gain. My husband gained weight when I was pregnant. I have a male friend who vomited every morning while his girlfriend was pregnant.

I think so. Isn't that when the man takes on the wife's symptoms when she is pregnant.
