RE:
Is water organic or inorganic?

As several enlightened souls above have pointed out very correctly, water is INORGANIC as it does not contain carbon. However, it should be noted that when the question was asked "Is water organic or inorganic?" the question was NOT "Is water Organic, as in organically grown carrots, or not?" We are talking about a chemical definition, not what "organic" means to people who grow cucumbers.

Water (H20) is inorganic —made from two elements hydrogen and oxygen. It contains no carbon atoms as organic compounds do. We can find organic matter and critters in our non-sterilized water, and we can find water in organic critters (including our own organs); but pure water is inorganic.

As sorely few of the above answers pointed out, it is INORGANIC. In chemical terms organic means containing CARBON and Hydrogen, water does NOT contain carbon.

Examples of organic molecules include hydrocarbons, carbohydrates and proteins, but not water.

Pure water is inorganic, the only way you could say it is organic is any life in water. But that's just it, IN the water, not the water itself. True it is necessary for all life, but water alone is inorganic.

Water is definitely INORGANIC because for any compound to be organic, it has to contain carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.

Water becomes orgnanic after you put certain chemicals in it. Well, it does not remain water any more after that!!

H2O
simply Inorganic

Carbon must be contained in an organic molecule. Water is H2O...no C, therefore inorganic.

inorganic
water can be made easily without living metabolism
water contains no carbon atoms
water is not derivative of hydrocarbon

(the latest definition of organic compound is hydrocarbon and its derivatives)

well at what point do u think water is an organic compound?
