You can't really tell someones race. John could be black or white or Maori or aboriginie or native american or pretty much anything. All it shows is that your parents were probably English speaking.

Generally, you can tell a persons linguistic heritage from their name, but not their race. Somone called Miguel obviously comes from a Spanish or Portuguese heritage, but they could be black, white, native american, east indian or a mixture of all the afformantioned.

Some names can be Identified, mostly the Asian names. You can tell A person of Indian Origim i,e Sanjay..no doubt its Indian. Ji Sung must be a Korean. So some names can be, But not English Names like John or Mark.
