just get a piece of tissue paper
dry, don't wet it.
just wipe it off to get the old stuff off
it might use 1 or 2 pieces, but it works
and ur hand will get dirty
but it comes off
When you apply it
don't make it too much or it will decrease ur heatsink's performance
add something a little smaller than a bb
or about the same size as a bb (the stuff u shoot out of airsoft guns if you don't know hwat im talking about)

if you don't know what size they are
then just add a small dot
but not too small
the get something like a credit card you don't use anymore
or a gift card that ran out
and spread it out of the cpu'd top
until everything is covered
then just put the cpu fan ontop of it

In order to get the most efficient transfer of heat, you need to remove the old compound before applying the new compound. This is especially true if you are using some of the newer special compounds that have a different chemical makeup as you risk polluting the newer compound and making it not work.

Remove the old paste.
I've had friends use rubbing alcohol, but I use Artic Silver's Thermal Paste Remover.

Just put on enough paste to cover the core, you do not want it spewing everywhere.
