depends what type of hole, a hole in the ground can be of varing depths. Where as a hole in clothing is not very deep at all, a maximum of a few millimeters but can be of varying widths.

A hole is always deeper then the amount of dirt that you take out.
Their is is never enough dirt to fill the hole back in
that is how deep a true hole is.
