Besides practicing, which can be frustrating if you do not understand the concepts behind the problems, and besides hiring a tutor which could get expensive, I would ask your instructor to help break down some problems with you. What kind of algebra are you doing? Solving for x on one side of an equation has a trick: If you imagine you want to get the variable alone on one side, you have to take steps to undo everything near it. (It helps if you have a good fundamental understanding of the order of operations and the various algebraic properties [associative, commutative, etc]. If you are working with polynomials, you can use FOIL [first, outer, inner, last] to help with multiplying or factoring. All in all, it is difficult to study for math because you can't memorize any answers. What you can do is try to understand how the problem works so that when you come across one you can attempt to solve it using what you do understand.

Hopefully, you paid attention in class and took notes. Review all the algebra problems to make sure you understand the process. Have a friend who is better at it help you with some algebra problems. The text should have definitions in it. Review, Review, Review.

Algebra is simple once you realize that whatever you do to one side of the equation, you must do to the other side. learn the terms and what order you work them... ie powers, parenthesis, multi, division, addition/subtraction. Write down the orders of completion and start simple... 3X= 15 or the like... and above all else... PRACTICE!

3. Do some small and easy example before go far

Pay attention in class. Read and reread the book. Ask questions, but always do so by explaining where you are stuck.
