Never take ibuprofen before donating Aleve(LOL) Seriously, the blood bank would prefer that there be no medications in the blood you're donating so that the recipient gets a "fresh" unit. Some of the medications put you at slight risk as a donor because they can cause extra bleeding at the site of the vein puncture. If you are a donor or are considering it, I commend you. I've donated several gallons over the years and have also donated platelets. Good Luck!

It shouldn't be a problem. Some medications thin the blood a little, so just let the nurse know how much and when you took it, and he or she will let you know if that is an issue. I've donated blood about 20 times now and the only time I've been deferred is when my iron has been low.

No, they usually ask you if you have taken any kind of pain medication within the last 24-48 hours.
