Going to Glacier National Park in a few days. My travel companion wants to fish but we're surviving on a small budget. Will we have to buy a permit?

No. You are not allowed to fish at a National Park. The National Park is protected from the bears to the algea on the side of the lake. You can't hunt or fish even if you have a permit anyways!

Depends on the park. Some allow fishing with a permit, some do not under any conditions. And you probably need a fishing license from the state too.

......................................

"All persons fishing in Glacier Bay are required to hold a valid Alaska State Fishing License and follow the State Fishing Regulations. Stream fishing in Bartlett River is within a short hike from Bartlett Cove. "

Depends on the park. For instance, in Everglades National Park you can freshwater fish if you have a State of Fla. Freshwater Fishing license.

Be careful. True story: I know a young man who fished the Everglades Nat park without a license. He was approached by a Park Ranger who asked for his license. Fla. exempts minors from licensing if they use certain types of gear. So he lied & said he was under age. He was arrested, his boat seized, & he was charged in FEDERAL COURT for lying to a Federal Officer.

Yes, they got him a witheld adjudication & got the boat released; but the experience & cost was a lot more than the trouble & cost of a license.

Most likely, yes. For just a regular fishing license, without all the stamps on it for "trout, perch" or whatever other fish there are, they are normally around $20. I went to Walmart in my area and got one. Go to the hunting dept. They should be able to tell you there if you absolutely have to have a fishing license to where you are going. Most counties require it. You don't want to get a fine if you get caught without one. They can be pretty pricey! More than the $20 you could pay to get a license. I think fines are like $300.

Check with the park. Chances are you need a license at least and you might be forced to just catch and release. Call the tourist board up there, they'd have more info.
