I think its between Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant at wrestle mania 3 and Stone Cold vs. Michaels and Mike Tyson as guest Ref at Wrestle Mania 15. They played it up for months, going on talk shows and stuff, having Austin try and beat up Tyson when he got there, then Tyson joins DX. Then the match starts and Stone Cold wins the title for the 1st time ever, Tyson punches Michaels, Tyson then puts on the the austin shirt and after that match wrestling changed forever. Michaels leaves for like 2 years quitting DX. DX added X-Pac, the New Age Outlaws, HHH became an elete title contender instead of his usual intercontenintal title stuff, and of course Stone Cold became one of the top two sellers of the company ever by being champ and selling billions of merchandise, fueding with McMahan, and eventually he popularized the Rock with his fued, now we have the Rock with a huge acting career as a result and a whole new generation of WWE fans.
Least thats my opinion.

I spoke to Hulk Hogan when he visited my previous job with EA Sports when we still developed the WCW games. He agreed that the Andre the Giant match was what sparked the "new order" of how that aspect of sports entertainment was going to evolve. Passing the torch, respect within the ranks and the beginning of the end of "heel vs. babyface" style matches, because after that, it decreased considerably, based on Vince McMahon's writing teams when developing scripts for matches. Also, no more "instant replay" when title matches were in doubt. That Andre vs. Hulk match changed it all for the better, but some worse still. Much improvement now!

If you say important I would say the 1st Wrestlemania Main Event (Hogan/T vs. Orndorff/Piper) because if that flopped then there would have never been a Hogan/Andre at Wrestlemania 3. Also in terms of importance Hogan vs. the Iron Sheik was important as well.

As the Austin vs. Michaels match Austin was allready over at the time so I dont think that did much to springboard his career. The more important match for Austin was against Bret Hart in the IQuit match at Wrestlemania that is when he started turning face and his popularty started to soor through the roof.

The Most important match in WWE history is Wrestlemaina 18 when "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan faced off against The Rock. It was a match that passed the torch from Hogan to The Rock. It also led to Hogan's "comeback" and The Rock leaving to fuffill his movie carreer. The match passed the torch.

Hulk HOgan Vs. Andre. The real first passing of the torch between an aging wrestler and a much younger wrestler. Classy act and also one of the most watched wrestlemania in history.
