No, but you are going to be. It's totally normal to feel awkward or scared - it's an odd situation to be in. If you feel your best it's usually less awkward - shave the legs, wear a comfortable outfit, bring a magazine or book. Also, let them know it's your first time in - they'll explain it to you. Let them know if anything feels uncomfortable and remember that they do the exam hundreds of times... They've seen and heard it all - so be honest and you'll get the most out of it. As with any doctor visit I would say to make a list of questions or concerns before-hand - that way if you are nervous you don't forget the important things you needed to know, especially on a first visit. Oh, and not that you would - but don't perfume down there or clean with anything out of the ordinary - it can really screw their tests up by affecting your pH balance and it could land you back in a week with an infection - don't be embarrassed about anything - you have a confidentiality agreement with your doctor that you don't even get with a best friend - take advantage of it! Good Luck!

Well that is completely normal. I am in my 30's and have been going to the gyn since I was 16 and I still get nervous.

Yes because you dont know how it will feel or what will happen (go wrong?).
It was really nothing, the first time I was prodded and spread and poked and felt up and propped on stirrups and hung off the end of a hospital-bed. Really it was.
Yes it was painful when the speculum was opened. It was also uncomfortable/painful when she poked her fingers inside. But each of those tests went by in less than 2 minutes, and I had no pain afterward. I only felt pride, maturity, and gratitude at myself for resolving to go, and makig it through just fine, and security knowing that "everything looks healthy and normal" down there.

Best wishes!

Although there's no reason to feel nervous, I think every woman goes through that. I still get nervous! Your gynecologist knows this and will try their best to make you feel more comfortable, don't worry!
