My mother uses this phrase with my step dad all the time! It means there is no sex, they sleep in separate rooms, don't spend any time together etc. Basically they live separate lives but are legally married.

To marry in name only means that she takes his name. There is no love, sex, living together, joint bills, etc.
Usually this is due to money - more money if your married, or homosexuals hiding behind "monogomus, hetero sexual" relationships. Basically the two people getting married make a deal with each other and it is considrered an open marriage, with personal or financial benefits

It means that u r only marrying them to take their last name. U don't love them or want a marriage in any other sense. By marrying them and taking their last name u will be benefitting in some way.

you married that person for the legal benefits of being married...for instance...money, or to get citizenship, etc....but you don't really have a "relationship" with that person, and people in this type of marriage often have "outside" relationships

just for the sake of having his name. It might be that that name is an influencial or popular one, so its good for your family or for family business if you marry that person. that means there's no love involve. its just married technically.

Marriage in name only means no sex. And if marriage is not consummated in sex, you can have it annulled.
