on a day when you're just lying around the house, go down to your basement. If there is a mold smell there is most likely mold somewhere in the basement. Mold is created by things that are wet for a long time. If you find mold, that probably means there is a leak somewhere and it's seeping throught the walls. Call a repaiman!

If the mold is still present you'll have to remove that first. Otherwise you can try bleach water and wipe everything down or try spraying everything with Febreeze. Lysol works well and baking soda sprinkled on the affected area works too.
If you have furniture that smells like mold or mildew, leave the item in the sun for 8 hours. I was skeptical myself but it actually worked.
Hope this help and have a great day!!!

for the bleach water... mix 1/4cup bleach to 1 gallon of water. If you need to strengthen it... go to a 1/2 cup bleach to a gallon of water.

Most basements need a dehumidifier to get rid of the dampness (which as you know causes mold). After you get it reasonably dry, try to find the black patches of mold and use bleach on them. Any stuffed furniture may have to be replaced. From then on, just use an air freshener along with the dehumidifier.

Well if the smell is there then the mold is there. You need to get rid of the mold. Look in the yellow pages for a restoration place...they should be able to tell you what to do. If there are none in your area, look online or try a local home improvement store such as Home Depot or Lowes. There may be a product you can use to do it yourself.
Good luck & God Bless!

Mold grows in damp dark environments. To kill mold, you need to use a solution of bleach and water, 1 part bleach and 10 parts water. To prevent it from coming back, you need to install a dehumidifier, and make sure that the basement doesnt leak.

I used to work with a restoration contractor. We would remove any contaminated materials (drywall, carpet, etc..) then we would spray with a 1 gallon garden sprayer. The spray was a water and antimicrobule that you can buy at home depot. It use to be about 35.00/gal but it worked. It didn't smell like clorox does. And then we would run the blowers and the dehumidfiers for at least 48 hrs.
You will need to be certain to fix the cause of this or it will return in a month.

If you end your life then you won't be able to smell the mold and now your problem is solved. So you might want to get on that killing yourself stuff soon.
