That sounds like a lot of fun!

People should come in costume. You can find a lot inexpensive items at the dollar store or a party supply to help you decorate.

You should make treasure maps and put them next to each person's place.

Really go with the theme.

I hope it's a great birthday!

I think it's a great idea! The people at work and I are actually doing that for one of our co-workers today (who is turning 42 - so what if it's immature!). Everyone is going to wear bandanas around their heads, and some people are going to wear an eyepatch. We made a treasure map so he has to go on a treasure hunt to find his present. There are so many things you can do with a pirate theme - I think you'd have a lot of fun!

Boy or girl - depends on what their hobbies or current interests might be. If I were turning 12 - I would not want a pirate party - because I didn't like those Pirate of the Carribean movies. But, you obviously already know this 12 year old and perhaps they would enjoy it. I could see being a lot of fun for adventurous kids.

Yar! Party me timbers. I think it sounds like a fun theme birthday party. And don't listen to all those who are saying it is immature for a 12 year old to have a pirate themed party. Have fun while you can. What is going to be the treasure for the treasure hunt? Movie gift certificates or certificates to a favorite ice cream parlor?

Pirates are becoming very cool, due to the Pirate of the Caribbean movies. Themed parties were becoming obsolete, but they are making a rapid comback. Your friend should have a great time. Just don't go with the lame fake parrot on you shoulder and run around screaming Aye!Maitee! throughout the whole party. Saavy?

Sounds like a lot of fun! Gold doubloons everywhere, fake parrots (that talk), an island theme, cardboard scabbards, fake eye patches, a 'plank' into a kiddie pool for those who lose games, lots of arghhhs and aye matey, and maybe even a stuffed monkey for a pet. The treasure hunt could be awesome!

Sounds a little too young for them, but if you make it fun by making maps with real buried chests and some cool "booty" they should have a lot of fun. I did that when my son was 8 or 9 and they had a blast. My wife and I made the map by soaking the paper in tea and then burning the some of the edges and burning smalls holes in some of the key clues to make it harder for them to find. Then we put enough bags for all invited into the chest with some pretty cool stuff and money.

That sounds like a lot of fun. You can give out gold foil chocolate coins as favors too!

You can find those and fun deocrations through Oriental Trading Company.

A great gift would be a copy of Treasure Island - great book!
