Haven't you seen the videos of old planes flying into the ground? Back during WW1 and WW2, they use to do suicide missions to kill more people, much like the cowards of 9/11. But my question is why did they wear helments if the mission was suicide? Be creative, and you'll get 10 points :)

THe helmet was worn because the radio speakers were inside the sides of the helmet next to the ears like headphones are today.
without radio they were reliant on take off "blind" when they could easily have crashed into something Landing when they wanted to take off. also directional information like distance and weater info was transmitted to the pilot as well as the all too essential radar screen findings like "Bandits at 11 oclock" Right oh skipper, I see them ..Take the one on the left........NO the Reft you Irriot but in Japanese tho... hope I have been amusingly helpful

So they wouldn't bump their heads and lose control on approach.

BTW: Kamikaze pilots were terrifying to our sailors, but hardly cowards - naval vessels are legitimate targets in war. Civilians never are. There's quite a difference.
