I love to draw, sketch, and doodle. People always ask me why I don't pursue my art and I always reply, "Because I haven't found a way to get paid for it yet." How can I get started turning my passion into a paycheck?

Ebay is a great way to do that. You could draw the pictures, take a photo of them and then post them on Ebay and hope that someone likes it. You can also set an amount that you would like to see your peice sell for and then if it doesnt sell for that amount you dont have to sell it. Just a thought.

turning your passion into a design career is a good idea, If your stuff is main stream enough that people will buy it, then you can do art fairs, however it is a tough life to travel so much. Or you could teach your skill to others! I loved art and decided to get paid to teach kids art. You could teach drawing specifically or any art classes. Art education programs in college usually teach you many areas of art plus education, and you can choose a "concentration" area. For me this is ceramics...you could do drawing!

When I was a kid I would sketch, draw and doodle and it became also my passion. I studied Graphic Design and Illustration at college. Now I get paid for sketching, drawing and doodling.

1) Send samples of your work to galleries.
2) Contact publishers and authors to ask if they need an illustrator.
3) Likewise to bands and record companies who are always on the lookout for album sleeve designers.
4) Contact advertising agencies for work as a commercial artist.

This list is by no means exhaustive. With a little imagination which as an artist you certainly would have the possibilities are endless.

Good luck.

Sounds like you want the security of a steady income. There are programs at local colleges with programs designed to get you into specialized job settings like graphic design, CAD, interior design, and even more specialized fields like in the materials market for color/paint production or its analysis. If these are up your alley, there are jobs to be filled. If you mean, however, to make money as an artist, meaning freelance work, look for local art galleries and the caliber of art they display. In order to make art and live solely from those works, you have to find how your work will benefit someone else, either monetarily for a gallery owner, prestige for another's patronage to their social circles, or decoration for one's living room.
