I recently bought a car from a friend and work colleague of my boyfriends. Basically, he sold me a pup and I lost my money and do you know why I lost it, because I was too trusting and too interested in getting a bargain. Also, because I would not do this to anybody else, I can hardly believe this would happen to me as I consider myself sane and sensible and know to avoid this kind of fiddle. There is absolutely nothing you can do. Even if you had proof of the id of the men, you have no contract, and it would be extremely expensive to prove your case.
Do what I did, and put it all down to experience and NEVER trust anybody like this again. People will tell you anything to part with your money. Get wise, and good luck - I know how gutted you must be feeling. Anyway, what goes round comes round and they will eventually, pay for what they did to your friend.

I dont really get this? Two men offered your mate a lappy, she gave them 450 quid and they gave her two bottles of water in a bag?? Is that what you are saying?

Ummmm, am wondering if you friend is safe to be let out on the streets myself, if this is indeed what you are saying. I think she should stay indoors more often and not carry more than a tenner around with her.

This is an old scam. They switch the lap top bag with the one with water by creating a distraction and using an accomplice. Sorry that happened, people should be careful buying anything off the street...

it was a common thing here in Nigeria some years ago. people approach you to buy necklaces and things that can come in packages. they switch it and make away with your money. the lesson here is not to buy expensive things at ridiculous prices from strangers. its become almost impossible here to try such a trick on the general populace, since getting caught means lynching.

she should report to the police, give a detailed description of the men (they'll probably be from a neighbouring community and would not reside where the scam was placed) and be on the lookout for them.

There is nothing your friend can do, apart from looking at an item before she buys it nexttime. Lets face it if she were in a store she would see before she bought?

the only way to stop them is by NOT buying from ANYONE in the street!! they prey on people who like a bargain and who are TOO trusting!! she should report it to the police, i don't expect she'll get her money back though, not much else she CAN do!!

it happens all the time, a lot of scum make their living this way. the most recent one is selling an xbox on eBay.... the only thing you get is a cardboard box with an x on it. the only way to stop em is to report it.
