I've always wanted to go to India, but can't find how to do everything I want for the money I have?

Wanted to visit the Taj Mahal, then go on safari, then spend a few weeks chilling in Goa. It's so expensive though - and have to get planes, trains and automobiles to do it!

All the packages involve visiting other places that I'm not bothered about. I've arranged holidays like this by myself before but can't work out how to get around India by myself. Are taxis and stuff safe?

If you do have lots of money, Do consider staying only is 4star or 5 star hotel, and ask hotel for cab service and to book your flights.
If you are staying in Taj Hotel in Agra, and want to go to Goa from there, Ask Taj itself to book you a room in their hotel branch in Goa. That's safer and you would have it planned.

Goa is a nice place, But I strongly suggest "Kerala" - http://www.keralatourism.org/ your trip to India is incomplete if you have not gone there, the backwaters and the ayurveda will truely entice you.

Airlines and Trains are a lot cheaper, i dont know what you are talking about reagarding the expensive part.

I have been to India but would be care full about travelling alone.The first time I went was when the Hippy Trail was still going strong my return was 2 years ago and it was very different.
If you want some really good advise I suggest looking on www.indiamike.com. a site that is purely for people looking to visit India I got all my information from this site and met a few people who are living out there and are indiamike monitors,it was great.

Goa is really changed but still worth a visit if you have the chance check out Kerala are great place.

Some people find the poverty hard but as long as you remember not give money to one beggar otherwise you will find a few thousand more appearing.

Generally, It is safe.

If You are alone , try to use train or busses. In case of autorikshaw, prefer a pre paid one. In many cities near bus station or Railway stations Trafic police arranges them. Its safer especially at nights. If its a taxi, hire from the proper stand. preferably from a regular travel agent. As they keep records where the taxi is going and who is driving.

And other small things , you would be careful about in any other place of the world.

Indians are very open hearted. They welcome thier guests with more than the limits of their capacity. You can find every good thing there, you name it and they have it. You may plan your vacation though a reputed travel agency. You won't have to worry about taxi and other stuff. You may plan according to your finances. There are all kinds of options. Expensive as well as cheap and if you could make good friend there, you don't have to worry about money. They believe in "Atithi Devo Bhava" means a guest is equal to GOD.

Come to Delhi from there go to Agra (Taj Mahal) on a day trip by a luxuary bus, come back go to Corbett by taxi (stay for 2 days) come back to Delhi head to Goa by air (www.spicejet.com)(cheap tickets) then fly back .

If u are a woman & travelling alone then it is not very adviceable if u are travelling alone.

no its not all that expensive. depends on what u wana do and how much and how hard u wana party. the trip to the taj and goa are all cool destinations, not to mention the raves in goa... aaahhhhh amazing!

Maybe you could go as a volunteer. The cost of the trip is very low, you could do something helpful and fulfilling, and still have time to see the other places you'd like to.
