I'm a newly hired employee and during my orientation on my first day, they told me that I can't use nor check my personal email. Instead, I should just use my company email and I'm not supposed to surf any website aside from Yahoo! and MSN because they can keep track of anything according to them! Is this possible? I'm really getting bored here and I don't have Yahoo Messenger!

Most companies restrict your internet access through a gateway. Those gateways can restict what sites you go to and can monitor any internet traffic. This is a security issue. Most companies have sensative data that cannot be allowed outside of the network so they put these policies in place.

Yes! they can track each and every email that goes out of their network. More so when they have their own email servers.
They can also very well track down to each computer as to which sites you have visited during your office hours. They can even block certain sites for your computer specifically. This is all done by the Network administrator and he keeps tracking which computer is being used to surf what site.
So, be aware of the sites you visit or emails you send out.

ya obvious mr.u being in computer field and an employee u should not pose this question mr.they will check every website and every mail u have forwarded and the persons with you chat and the websites u visited in the office hours or in the office any time .It may have some notorious impact,Be careful while in the office. and everything will be noted in the office servers

Yes Brother, They can keep track of all the we pages you surf. Every website that u access is registered in your Server and your computers memory. You can delete pages from your memory which are present in "Temporary Internet Files" but u cant delete whats been recorded in your companies server.

Yes it is possible. I work in a hospital and our informations system watches where we go and what we do on the computer. We have a system called "Watch Dog" that monitors our systems.

it is easier to restrict to begin with rather than track but it is possible, do you log on with employee number and can you log on to other computers with you log on details,
if you have no employee log on then good luck proving it was you
if you do and there that pathetic to let you surf and prosecute for doing so rather then restricting then your stuffed

company mails are supported by servers and its very easy to monitor all the other machines through this server.
