Exactly!!
And if people are so concerned about his anti-semitism then how come we're not hearing more about the guy that gunned down all the Jewish women last week? I guess anti-semitism expressed in words from a celebrity is more serious than anti-semitism expressed by violence.

The media has to give people a reason to watch- drama. If they just reported that he was driving at 90 MPH while under the influence of alcohol, it would be old news fast. But what better way to get ratings than to incite people, and cause people to watch for updates on the news.
Mel's anti-semitic tirade is horrible, and I feel that that too should be news-- I do not want to spend money that will go into Mel's pocket when he obviously has some anti-semetic feelings. Hate should not be rewarded.

I Agree! The real story was his total disregard for human life. His or anyone else that happen to be on the road that night.
The media goes for the hype. The story that it believes will catch every ones attention. In Truth the story only caught the attention of those who read little, watch a lot of TV and believe everything hear.
The ones that believe in nothing and falls for everything!
Keep digging for the Truth.

I just answered with basically the same as your question. They are looking for more ways to knock him down. They just love to see a celebrity make mistakes.Someone could've been hurt.Hurting with words is one thing but physically is another.I feel sorry for him. These celebrities are in the public eye and they should know that media and people are just waiting for a slip up.They are going to focus on the things he said because anything to try to catch the eye more. It's true they should focus more on drinking and driving. Some of these celebrities can run down a person and not even go to jail.

The focus of the story is that he said nasty comments about certain type of people that he should not have done. Also the fact he made the film The Passion Of The Christ" means that his every word or action is looked intently.

Because the drunk driving is such an obvious and common problem among so many. They've done your job since you know about it. Mel Gibson is apparently a real jerk. Boycott his movies if you don't like him.

The media is a business...it needs to sell advertizing. It does so by getting people to watch / read / pay attention. It does this by "stirring the pot" - "creating" excitement, controversy, emotional stories - even making up stuff! (can you believe it!) rather than focusing on and reporting just the facts. "Bad" news sells, e.g., if Bush was just a plain old good guy doing a good job, news would be boring...therefore, let's create a bad Bush and good world...controversy...emotional...sell your product...WAKE UP AMERICA!

The reason is money. You assume the media is interested in the news. They are not. They are in the business of selling mouthwash and assorted other things. The real story doesn't sell.

Hi! You are soo right .. I think that Journalists and the Media - should report the facts - maybe if they stopped voicing their own made up view on things - there wouldnt be so many crazy extremists who are easily lead making trouble.

They are both lazy and under time and financial pressure - that is why they don't do their homework. As for Mel, he is a racist drunk, so it is hard to know what is worse. The racist part ends his career so they appropriately focus on that.

Most mainstream American TV news is intertainment. They can't focus on real issues because the bottom line is profit...and all American news is owned by a few corporations.
