That is too broad for some people but not for others. hehehe. the limits of property are:
a. by law
1. Right way or must be used against rights of others
2. Easement of party wall
3. Easement of waters that flow from one property to another
b. by the state
1. Power of inherent domain
2. Police Power
3. Power of Taxation
c. by the individual
1. when the individual bounds himself to a contract.

Well, it depends on the object that is owned.
We'll use an apartment as an example:

By Law: They can govern rules and regulations that prohibit the owner from certain things, and protect the owner if something goes amiss.
By State: They make the rules and regulations to protect the posessor's rights, and the owner's rights.
The Owner: Responsible for mainting the property, keeping it fit for posession.
