In these days of political correctness, no one is fired, but their superiors seem to accept their resignations pretty quickly. Let's just say that Dan was encouraged to "seek his fortunes elsewhere". His obvious political bias had destroyed his credibility, and would have done the same to the parent company CBS had they kept him in his position as chief anchor.

After he left the evening news, he actually served as an editor for the show. As far as I know, he retired from that position not that long ago.
