You really can't keep them from stinging, as they sting by automatic reflex action.

You can minimize the sting of some jellyfish by using a "meat tenderizer" powder or spice mix. In emergencies, I have heard that human urine will also reduce the pain of the sting, so you can pee and rub it in, or have a friend pee on the stung area.

Always seek medical help when stung, because home remedies are no match for some of the jellyfish that are out there!

A product called "sea safe" neutralizes the chemicals that cause the tiny pods that fire into the skin. It's less effective on the more deadlier species like Portuguese man o war & box type jellies. 3mm wet suits w/ closed cells are probably better.

Stay out of the water. If you must go in, have some Adoph's Meat Tenderizer readily available. Got this from a reliable source with first hand experience.

You can't but if you handle them make sure you wear protective gear. Stay away from them is my advice, but if you do get stung, refrain from putting they infected part in water since it makes the stinging cells more active.
