I too have always known them as Eerie or Eary Wigs, maybe its a local thing !

Earwig is the common name given to the insect order Dermaptera characterized by membranous wings folded underneath short leathery forewings (hence the literal name of the order - "skin wings"). The abdomen extends well beyond the wings, and frequently, though not always, ends in a pair of forceps-like cerci. With about 1,800 recorded species in 10 families, the order is relatively small among Insecta. Earwigs are, however, quite common globally. There is no evidence that they transmit disease or otherwise harm humans or other animals, despite their nickname of Pincher bug.

But I guess you knew this already, doesnt everyone !lol

No offense meant, forgive me, but your Q brought to mind a wig shop here in Orlando, and one in particular on a styrofoam head that's as eerie as any I've ever seen,,, it's in rainbow colors, and likely great for someone doing the clown thing at a kids party.

The insect is just one more on a long list. At the top of mine, that we could do without, is Roaches. Unfortunately I suspect all the insects on the planet will outlast our species.

So I figured out that you are not talking about
creepy hair pieces, but Ear Wigs the bugs.

I don't know their purpose in life but then again what is any bugs purpose?

Last year we started using a spray service for our lawn. Well we got rid of tons of bugs outside and the side benefit was we very rarely ever see a bug inside. and since we are in Florida (bug heaven) we are thrilled. I always hated spraying the floors in the house.

Try a spray service or buy a bag of granular pesticide and (with gloves)scatter it around the outside of your house> (It can't hurt)

Yucky things, aren't they? I remember a W. Somerset Maugham story about a Sumatran (?) plantation owner's wife and her lover and the plot to insert one in the husband's ear! Yuck! Yuck! When we lived in B. C., there were 'tons' of them--and yes, they do love the damp and dark places! When my son was little he left a pair of runners outside overnight and when I went looking for them, inside the sneakers were 'hundreds' of the beasties!
I live in Northern Ontario now and only recently have seen a plethora of them--thank goodness mainly outside with only a couple in the washer area of the basement. Check the www for a good read about them and help from the Canadian government.

Those are Earwigs.

And no, their presence has nothing to do with global warming - they are around all the time. ('cept in the winter when you won't see them)

They eat decaying matter - that is their purpose. They're not harmful, just a little scarier-looking than they should be.

both are roughly the same except when it comes to protein. ALMOST ALL veggies include a good amount of protein; fresh fruit does not.

Stay very still and try to remain calm. These are very dangerous insects. The colour is due to recently gorging themselves on human blood, which they do en masse. Has anyone recently gone missing in your house?
