They're going to start an IV, give you meds to start contractions and help you dialate, then it will be labor as usual. Good luck!

First don't worry about it... Im sure everything is going to come out fine. Take some things with you to the hospital so you can take your mind off of it - magazines, cd player, etc... ohh and get some sleep while you can.
I was induced with both of my pregnancies. I personally think it's better to do it that way since you are already in the hospital ready for it to happen. Anyways, with me they put this little tiny piece of pill in me, it looks like a little pill cut in half, it's suppose to go near the uterus to thin it out. They usually do 5 or so of these and if it don't work for you then they might put some other type of drug in your IV. I can't remember exactly but I think they do it around every 3 hours. I only needed 3. The first one just gives you minor cramps, the second one was a little more intense, but the third one made me go from 3cm to 10 + 1 in less than 25 minutes. Hopefully it will happen fast for you - Good Luck! and Congrats on your new baby!

Well since this is your second baby then you know all about the IV's and stuff. They will go through all that and then they will induce you.
There are different methods of inducing:
Stripping or sweeping the membranes
Using prostaglandin medications
Using a Foley catheter
Rupturing the membranes
Using Pitocin
With my first child they Ruptured the membranes with what looks like a crochet hook.
With my second child they used both Pitocin and then Ruptured the membranes.

To be "induced" is to be "forced" into labor. After the induction labor will proceed as normal - or should - I was "induced" for my second child and I had him "normally". Try to be calm - it's a normal procedure, these days, and the people around you - hospital personnel - should be able to handle anything.

They will give you a shot, probably intravenous, they used to make you walk around a lot until you started going into labor. It's been many years for me and it may have changed but one thing is for sure...there is nothing to be nervous about...good luck!
