Im not exactly sure of the monetry value of £50.00, but can say that in 1982, I started my first full time position upon leaving college. My salary was £27.50 on a YTS training scheme. Out of this £27.00 I travelled to work everyday by bus, paid my mum £10.00 and still had enough money to go out at the weekend. Now you can hardly get a take away for that.

£50.00 was still worth £50.00 in 1982.

The question should really be, what could you buy with the £50.00 in 1982?

The answer would be, a whole lot more than you can today because inflation has increased the prices of everything over the years in between.

Everything was a lot cheaper in 1982 than it is today. The average house price was about £12,000 at that time. Today it is about £160,000 so £50 does not go very far at all today in comparison with 1982.
