It's a paradox.
I noticed that men will refuse to go to a doctor when they are almost dying or at least in need of serious medical help. However, when they have a little cold or some very minor problem, they whine and complain and are generally helpless and looking for a lot of sympathy - much worse than women! A lot of women will stoically go through childbirth and other serious pain without much of an outward show of suffering.

I don't know. I think that it's that sometimes machismo that takes control. The old "There's nothing wrong with me...i can handle it". Granted I myself don't go to the doctor for aches, pains, etc but religiously I get an annual physical which includes an EKG, prostate exam and chest x-ray and stress test.
I find it smarter to do that than waltz in after not seeing a doctor for ages and being told "Had we caught this sooner...".

They hate to admit they aren't Superman. Also I think they are afraid of what the Doctor will say to them. But I understand that completely, I hate doctors too and I'm a woman.

Because they know that if they go to a doctor, they will come back knowing of some affliction that will prevent them from drinking beer and smoking cigars.

It doesn't work that way here. I dont run to the Dr. at every occasion, but I do go without hesitation if needed.
