You put your finger on the problem quite well. This is a classic situation where negotiation and cease-fires simply will not work.

Hezbollah's militants and supporters at a grass root level believe that the goal is to establish an Islamic national ruled by sharia law, and this implies the removal of all obstacles, being the State of Israel the first ones. Up on the higher echelons reality is not that black-and-white, as Hezbollah's leadership is aware that Syria, first, and now Iran are using Hezbollah to ensure Iran's predominance in the region.
However, Hezbollah has carried out an interesting program in Lebanon supplying for the many needs of people. Hezbollah is really an advocate of the poor (provided they are Shiites), provide services (health, eudcation, housing) and is not mingled in corruption. Hezbollah is an important stakeholder that cannot be dismissed.

The death of Israel and America.
There can be no peace unless they decide to accept the Israeli state and learn to live amongst the Jewish population peacefully. The poor Palestinian people have been used as pawns for decades by all of the Mid-East countries simply to incite war and the destruction of Israel. Their children are indoctrinated from pre-school age to hate Jews and even in some cases to die in martyrdom if necessary to eradicate the Jewish state. Israel has offered 90% of the West Bank , Gaza, and Yassir Arafat embezzled millions upon millions of U.S. and Israeli dollars that were intended help create a Palestinian state. What has Iran and Syria ever offered the the poor Palestinian people? Have they ever offered them land and or money to create there own state? The only thing they have offered are terrorist organizations such as Hammas and Hezzbolah to incite war and the destruction of Israel. They made there bed...Let them lie in it.
This is a war on terror. This is the crux of the terrorist problem in the world today. If we sought for a cease fire at the fulcrum point of terrorism what would this say about America's own resolve to rid the world of terror. It would damage our credibility throughout the Middle East and harm our ability to use diplomacy amongst other Middle Eastern nations.
Awesome Quesetion by the way.
TO MILLIONARO-terrorism is corruption

They want the utter total unconditional destruction of the state of Isreal and the extermination of all the Jews.
There can never be lasting peace, until all their weapons, rockets and missiles are taken away from them.
There is nothing to negotiate. They only speak one language - the language of violence!
So that is the language the Isrealis are speaking to them right now.

You can't negotiate with terrorists unfortunately. Hezbollah is a terrorist organization -- they've been around for a long time. Just like Al Queda.

Yeah. they want to wipe out Israel. That is their main motive.
They kidnapped two Israeli soldiers, demanding Israel to release their agents, who are in Israeli jails.
