I'm in love with my ex, who broke up with me at midnight. I've made some mistakes, nothing extreme, but I've disappointed him before. I believe that if I got another chance I could be more understanding and careful, but it seems like he doesn't think I'm serious. I'm completely miserable, and I need him back! What do I do?

If you want to get back with him like this then you're in danger of becoming a doormat, asl and what are your stats?

To answer your specific question (which is TERRIBLY important), you don't "get him back" but he may decide to come back. There is a BIG difference. Your misery comes through loud and clear. Breaking up at midnight means to me that it was a sudden thing. Suddent major changes in relationships often indicate either lack of connection or instability. I know you are miserable but are you sure the pleasure of being connected with him is worth it? You take the blame for the break-up. You can be serious as a heart-attack about wanting to get back together but unless both get their needs met in the relationship, you'll continue to have major league troubles.

He doesn't trust you, that's your fault.
Before you could have him in your life again, you have to gain his trust back,..that is if he lets you. Whatever you did to him, learn from your mistakes, and don't take it to the next relationship.

He is one of those people who put a lot of value in trust and you don't
