Fastest access? Linux

Database access? Linux

Microsoft.com switched to 15,000 GNU/Linux servers about a year ago. GNU/Linux requires about a tenth of the maintenance on the systems.

Hotmail.com, bought by Microsoft in 1997, has always run Linux, and now runs over 15,000 servers on Linux. Why screw with success?

MSN.com reports that it is running M$Server 2003, but, that is easy to write into the browser reports. MSN is actually being served from a huge farm of GNU/Linux servers!

You can't afford the headaches, constant outages, high maintenance overhead, that using Microsoft products cause!

Run what Google.com runs, GNU/Linux.

If you really want to emulate Yahoo.com, you could run FreeBSD, which is very good for security and stability, ease of maintenance!

Actual labor is one tech per 100 Linux servers, vs. one tech per every 8 to 10 Microsoft servers. Labor and outages due to the a virus-magnet, easily hacked, Microsoft OS, really cost the most money, not the hardware!

Linux and *BSD servers run indefinitly, (look at some logs, at the major ISPs and countries!), whereas Microsoft crashes/locks-up, every 12 days!

At the very least, run one of the Unix Clones, GNU/Linux, or *BSD, as they run 78% of the entire world, the Internet, and ALL of the Fortune 1,000 corporations, 165 World governments, BurgerKing, Target, etc.!

There are 309 LiveCDrom distros, at http://livecdlist.com

My strongest firewall is an older system, like an 866mhz Dell box, with a 10 Gb to 20 Gb drive, 128Mb RAM, running headless, at the gateway for every hub switch (24 systems), called IPCOP and it even provides web page content filters, and blocks Ports both IN/OUT! Remote maintenance is provided, so, I save on the Raritan Switches, that can cost about $2,400 per rack! http://IPCOP.org

Yes, it runs black lists, Dan's Guardian, SpamAssassin, gets everyone's emails, filtered of all spam, and keeps irate former employees, black hats, and the BSA, out! Automatic or manual updates, plus, genuine multi-user, multi tasking, multi-processing SMP are included in ALL the Unix/POSIX systems!
