Given a pat on the back and told, 'Golly good shot sir!'

You're nuts, killing animals is not, by definition, murder, so therefore we are not letting murderers run loose in society when we don't punish hunters.
I suspect you free up somewhere where there was never any hunting or killing of animals, so what gives you the right to judge something you don't properly understand.

If hunting for food doesn't count then why should there be a penalty for killing animals that are pests? There are usually good reasons for doing the killing. You have incorrectly used the word "innocent" in your question. All carnivores kill other animals so why would any penalty be justified?

its a sad fact that a peado can go to jail for only 5 years and get early parole. touch a dog or a cat the cops will be round your house quick as a flash. people care more about animals that they do about people. killing rodents such as mice rats is a neccessity even though its not for food. killing an animal for fun or sick pleasure should carry a 6 month imprisonment penalty. after all nobody complains when they're sitting down to the sunday roast, police cant arrest a slaughterman for killing the animal even though he's not going to eat it.

Why do you assume the animals are innocent?
Their big eyes are so they can hunt better, the cute fur is for warmth, and what do you think they live on?

You cant compare killing animals and killing people.. Sorry but killing an animal does not constitute murder and though i see where you are coming from your argument is fundamentally flawed..

If hunting for food doesnt count, what non food animals do people poach?........................................................................
...................................#
......................................
.........
.
..oh yeah.... elephants and rhinos.
Leave all the big stuff alone.
Lions and tigers too....... although you should be allowed to try and wrestle any big cat for its skin. Man on moggy so to speak.
Game? Have it!!
cats for gonks too.
All crocs are evil and must die, so that kinda speaks for itself.
And would it be SO bad to take roaches out completely? Just think........ tiny little guns.... lizzards to round 'em up.
Does poring boiling water on ants nests count? (poaching.... geddit?)
