Use the Greyhound Bus system. Tickets are cheap and there's a bus station in every city and practically every town!

I definitely do not recommend hitchhiking...it used to be ok, but these days it is way too dangerous.

2 choices for safe travel,

1.) Go Greyhound (definitely the cheapest)
2.) Amtrak (cost a little more, but MUCH nicer ride)

Motorcycle, GreyHound, Hitch hiking is the cheapest as it is free but then you always have the chance you'll get picked up by a psycho, raped and dumped in a river.
I'd go GreyHound.

Try using the AmTrack trains east coast and historic parts of early america are well covered with transportation. However west of the Mississippi river you might have to use Southwest Airlines

Greyhound. Ride the dog!

You'll meet some SCARY people, though. And the meanest drivers on the road.

Bicycle, walking,hitch hiking.....

If you mean quicker transport, then I'd say a bus. Trains are kinda expensive.
