I think it all depends on how happy we are on the outcome of an event, if its something special to us we label it as fate, if not then maybe its just a co-incidence to us.???

fate is what is bound to happen; inevitable destiny; u cant change it whereas coincidence is the occurrence of events simultaneously in a striking way but without a casual connection between them.you see fate is unavoidable, its the purpose that is appointed unto you, you can't do anything about it. coincidence is avoidable, its a strange or a noticeable occurance which just happens to happen at the same time. their two very different things..but this is a good question.

I think fate is a special form of coincidence. When a certain event happen many times, unexpectedly, you may start to see some sort of pattern to the occurance of these events. You call it fate because it appears to be something that's bounded to happen, provided that both fate and coincidence are random events.

On another note, consider how you met your wife/husband (if you are married). Doesn't matter the location and time, would you consider it as fate? Now imagine the same meeting (same location, time and everything) but this time you saw your friend, do you call that conincidence?

Coincience is accidental occurance of events.
Fate is attributed to some kind of grand scheme/plan of events
It all depends on where you wish to lay the blame.
