I am talking about large concentrations of them in a small area.

They are indeed most likely contrails (CONdensention TRAILS), formed when the wator vapor (the burning of hydrocarbon based fuel releases CO2 and H2O) from the jet engine freezes and turn into small ice crytals at altitude. And that has to be high altitude. You do not say how high those were, but if they look like coulds, that is the most likely possibility. And they would be bunched together if you happen to be on the path of a very busy air corridor, like New-York to Los Angeles.

I do not know where you come from, so cannot offer an explanation as to why you did not see them before. But perhaps where you were did not have a lot of aircraft traffic flying overhead? Or maybe any plane departing in that area would not go far, so would not fly high (you go high if you intend to go far, otherwise, what is the point of going high if you have to come down right away? Low altitude airplane do not leave contrail behind them).

And North America is one the busiest place in the world for airline traffic, so that adds to what you can see, I presume.

It probably happens because there are a lot of airplanes flying about in the States.

It also depends on the temperature and relative humidity. In an area with fairly cool temperatures, and reasonably high humidity (like you'd find in most of northern USA), the trails show up much more clearly.

There all lots of sights that you can go to where you can draw your won conclusion. But chemtrails are suppose to be "good" for something or a norther but we don't know what. If your getting into that stuff might as we watch loose change too. Here's a secant link.

there is a definate difference between contrails from jet aircrafts' engines and chemtrails.

chemtrails are lower in altitude, spreadout to fill the sky, and are oily in appearance when the sun is behind them.
