1. Find 3 conecutive even integers such that 5 times the 1st + 6 times the 2nd is equal to 7 times the third.
2. Find 2 consecutive odd integers such that 5 times the smaller one is 28 more than 3 times the larger one
(just making sure if im correct..)
on #2:
Let x - 1st odd int.
x+2 - 2nd odd int.
5*x=3(x+2)
5x=3x+6
5x-3x=6
2x/2 = 6/2
x=2 ??? am i right??? pls correct me & i dont know the ans. on # 1 help! ><

5n+6(n+2)=7(n+4) 11n+12=7n+28 n=4 so the answer is 4,6&8
5n=28+3(n+2) 2n=34 and so n=17 so the integers are 17 and 19

let x be first even integer
let (x+2) be the second even integer
let (x+4) be the third even integer
5x + 6(x+2) = 7(x+4) - Expand
5x + 6x + 12 = 7x + 28 - isolate x
5x + 6x - 7x = 28 - 12 - Simplify
4x = 16 - Solve
x=4
The consecutive even numbers are 4,6, and 8.
as for Question number 2
let x be the first odd integer
let (x+2) be the second odd integer
5x = 3(x+2) + 28 - Expand (you left out the 28 more then)
5x = 3x + 6 + 28 - isolate x
5x - 3x = 34 - Simplify
2x = 34 - Solve (when u solved it last time, 6 / 2 = 3 not 2)
x = 17
The consecutive odd numbers are 17 and 19.
always be sure to subsitute your awnser into the equation. you will be able to backcheck your answers that way to make sure they are correct. but also re read the awnser and be sure you have come up with the right equation

1. 4, 6, 8
4*5 + 6*6= 56
56/7=8
2. x and (x+2)
5x = 3(x+2) + 28 ...five times the smaller equals 3 times the larger plus 28, simplify
5x = 3x +6 +28
2x = 34
x =17, (x+2) = 19
double check by multiplying 17 by five, subtracting 28, and dividing by 3 to get 19
