Yes. Some people already have these implants. They are used to store data such as Name, medical information, and other things that can be helpful in assisting people in certain situations. They are usually placed under the skin in either the hand or upper arm. To read the information, a scanner is placed over the chip, I believe they are called RIF or RFI, and the information appears on the screen.

With the current rate of Identity theft. (Over the next 10-Years every American will have there Identity stolen an average of 3-5 times) I would welcome a more positive form of identification, like an implanted chip. The only thing I would trust more would be a high speed DNA reader. (but they don't exist yet.)
Fingerprint scanners are NOT reliable. Some times you can lift a fingerprint right off the monitor or other part of a laptop and use that to scan and get in.

The technology is already out there. We can already do it to our pets. It is under consideration for soldiers, elderly, and alzheimers patients. It's just a matter of time before it's available or even mandated for the general population. It will probably begin with the children under the auspices of helping to identify and track abductees and runaways.

anything is possible. i think its only a matter of time before chips r inserted, probably for medical purposes at first and then the more advanced they become the more they will be able to adapt them for each individualn person. although i dont think it will be in my life time. :)
