It's ignorant blind hate. Actually, it's mostly just ignorance; hate would mean they're passionate, and that they have a reason. People who want to treat gays as second-class citizens are just idiots. They obviously have no historical, sociological, biological, or psychological knowledge. They're afraid of homosexuality because, somehow, they missed the fact that it's been around as long as man has, and at one point, in many places, was as prevalent as heterosexual anal sex is today. They missed the fact that many of the things we consider "bad" today (marijuana, curse words, etc.), are only bad because it was conveinent for some ruler or some religious sect at some point to make them "bad." If they bothered to read a history book, they'd know homosexuality is natural, always has been. If they had any sociological perspective, they'd know that what's good and bad and ok and not ok totally depends on society's ridiculous whims, and they'd know that going on the whims of the masses commonly leads to major, major mistakes (the holocaust, slavery, thinking the world is flat, ETC.). Also, with a little sociological perspective, they would see that not everyone is going to "turn gay." The percentage of people who're gay probably hasn't changed much over thousands of years. As many people as were gay in the ancient world, if gayness were a thing spread around like the common cold, none of us would be here today! These people are also not forward thinking, because if an unusually large number of people did wind up gay, those people would probably be smart enough to arrange pro-creation, even if just in a laboratory setting, so it's not like humanity would die out. It might be Brave New Worldish, although I doubt that, because I would think that, for survival of the species, if the majority was gay, that majority might be willing to have hetero sex just once with the aim of keeping the species around. Being gay is not a psychological issue. It's not contageous. And to say it destroys "the family" (what the hell is that, anyway??), is absurd. Alcoholism and cheating and rampant divorce, if anything, destory the family. Love and commitment don't. The sad fact is, the average person cares no more about educating himself on homosexuality than they do on politics or religion. They're sheep. Religion is, I think, the main reason people persecute homosexuality, and anyone who looks far enough will see that religion is just another absurd way of the stupid leading the stupider. I hope this stuff will change.

No, that is a reverse stereotype that you have.
Most people just want to live their lives and could care what people straight, gay, bi or TG want to do. (the only exception are the zealots)
It's also when any agenda is forced on people that they get belligerent.
I don't know anyone that has gotten to know me that doesn't like me and the way I lead my life.
Most of the anger towards gay activists is the need to change the meaning of Marriage. The activism should have been focused on legal unions, Marriage is a religious institution which unfortunately the word has found it's way into state and federal law. This is a separation of church and state matter.
It is also a feeling that most people that don't fall into a (minority) category feel that they are not getting treated the same as those that do.

No. The problem is that sexuality is not set in stone. It is more of a continuum. Some people do fall at one end, completely heterosexual or the other, completely homosexual, but most people fall somewhere along the curve. A lot of people who fall along this curve fear what society would say if they knew what was going on in their minds. For this reason, to draw attention away from themselves, they make light of the situation or condemn the alternate lifestyles, never really addressing the issues at hand. A large portion of this condemnation is based on peer pressure.

I'm straight and I have no fear of gay people taking over. I support you guys and feel you should have all the same rights as we do. People that fight so hard to keep gay marriages from being legal, and trying to keep gays from adopting...etc..are naive and have probably been raised to think the way they do. Many of them use
Christianity as a reason they believe they way they do, but it doesn't seem very Christian to me to criticize and run someone else down just because you disagree with their lifestyle. I think if someone is doing something illegal, or is doing something to hurt someone else, then defiantly, it's OK to speak out and fight for laws! But in the case of gay issues, I don't feel your lifestyle is hurting anyone, and I have no problem with you. And I hope my husband and I are making it clear enough to our children that it's not OK to hate, and that one day when they're old enough they'll speak out on these issues as well.

I'm straight & I'm no more affraid of them taking over then anyone else. What ever is their preference is no concern of mine so long as they leave me out of the ring. I won't quote scriptures like a lot of people do, but I will say that what some people do in public in front of our childen is what ticks me off. Gay, straight or otherwise.
I don't like all the laws, but they are being inforce for reasons we may or may not understand. What can one do???

they know we won't take over, but they talk like it might happen to sway the less savvy folks into fearing us, and listening to what they say. Gays are demonized to get the rest of the population united behind one idiot or another. Read 1984. It's more true today than it ever was.

They should be afraid of us! Those that are behind all the restrictive legislation must have gotten a copy of our agenda! Who's missing theirs? Which one of you traitors gave it up?
Seriously, though, I believe it is ignorance. Pure, simple ignorance. Bless their hearts. Not all straight people are that way, thankfully.
