Run a virus check on the computer. Make sure all your internal connections are secure. When does the PC switch off? Do you have a PSU supplying a sufficent wattage? Have you recently made an changes/installs? If you have the option, use System Restore to restore the system to a previous configuration.

allot of BAD advice from the others.
the problem is most likely in the cmos. most computers nowadays (sigh) shut down when the CPU is about to over heat (in this case ether replace the fan or clean out the mountain of dust in there.)
or if it isn't used for a certain amount of time it automatically switches off and on later (don't ask me why it will take to long to explain).
it could be that there is a program that updates itself without you knowing.
and last but not least SPYWERE,VIRUS and hackers could be the problem

Before you spent to much money, try running an anti spyware program like Gaint or Spybot. You may have a little friend in there that needs removing.

If all else fails reboot your system from scratch, i.e. reload windows etc.

there is a solution to this problem,go to my computer >right click>properties>system properties>advanced>start up and recovery>in the dialog window there is a "automatically restart option, you should uncheck the box and press ok>a reboot should then be done to be safe
after that your p.c should stop rebooting,it would also be a good idea to look in your bios and check to see if there is a power management option and check to see if any settings have been changed or better still ,set defualts for that page(normally f6)
good luck

It might be the power supply is on it's way out and the computer shuts itself off as it overheats. Check to see if the fan is working

Check your power saving settings!!!!!
If you tell your power saving settings to go your comp in sleep mode it will go in sleep mode (which you may be feeling as switch off) and as soon as you touch your key board or mouse it will wake up, which you are seeing is automatic startup!!!!!

buy a new on-off switch....no joke they do break as they are mechanical and its not unusual that when they are worn down somewhat the contacts and make or break very easily.
