Why is this question under 'Business' in 'Cardiff'?

You thinking of torching your own place for insurance...?

This question springs from what is known as 'the CSI effect'. The shows on today are training criminals how to better cover their tracks. The T.V. shows are trying to be so realistic, they are showing the actual techniques and standard operating procedures of real investigators.

The best way to cover your tracks is to "seed" the scene. Empty several ashtrays of cigarette butts around. Collect chewed gum and drop them over the body (or whatever). Collect DNA from different sources so that when you are implicated, you can claim your evidence was placed there by the "real" criminal.

However, don't forget to have an airtight alibi. There are other ways to convict besides DNA.

Crime scene? You didn't say what kind. So lets say that you are in a parking lot in your 1970 uninsured Yugo and you hit a 2006 BMW doing about 10,000.00 in damage. 30 people seen you do it, but the cars owner didn't.

How do you leave the scene, just what do you do?

You get out and make sure that everyone sees you with a pen and paper. They assume you are leaving your name, insurance info., etc. but really you leave:

People seen me hit your car, they think I am leaving my name and number, but I am not. Have a good day.

Slap it on the windshield wiper and get the Yugo outta there.

It's very simple. Leave it BEFORE the crime committed.

There's always going to be evidence, hon. It's just a matter of if the cops find it or not.
