Worthless? Worthless? What's worthless?
I found 1p on the pavement the other day. Now what could I buy with that? I still picked it up, even though it was 'worthless'.
It's true that you can't 'do' much with the points you get here. They are merely an indication of how many questions you have answered and how many questions you have answered WELL (which is really what it's about). More points mean that you get to answer (and ask) more questions a day.
The 'game' is (or should be) about sharing useful knowledge and opinions. The trouble is that there are far too many people with tiny minds who treat it like a joke. Sometimes that's fun and OK, mostly it just gets very boring!
If you have a lively mind and like sharing what you know (and finding out things for people who are less capable of researching the Internet), then it's worth finding good questions to answer and, now and then, getting rewarded for giving a good answer.
Play the game as you wish - it's a lot less boring if you play it the way it was meant to be played!

Hello... well, when myself and my partner occasionally answer a question here it is to genuinely help someone...or offer help, factual information or a suggestion. We are all here on this planet struggling through our ups and downs and like friends in our private life, we are sharing whatever help we can offer, as our friends do with us. The only difference being that we don't physically see or know the person asking the question...but that doesn't matter, that's the nature of the internet, impersonal as it is!
I've had good, positive feedback from people. Because there are those on here who are genuinely helping eachother. The points that are given are superfluous..they don't have any meaning or use...unless it makes you feel good to just gain points!! The point system is a bit silly really...but nevermind. :o)
take care.

This is the same mental phenomenon that occurs when we buy something on sale even though we don't need it. We think we are getting something easy. Wow, 2 points for answering a question? Thats easy enough. And then we see the points adding up, but someone has more so then it turns into a competition. All that, and it's fun!!!

Actually this portal is not about earning points but helping each other out of daily chores. Points are means and getting answers are ends. Points have no worth, but the sort of answers, suggestions received are priceless who are entangled.

We should take our participation in this forum seriously, because I've seen with my own eyes how Yahoo Answers saves people from making life altering tragic mistakes.....and in some cases, even save lives.
Sure, it's fun and I do enjoy answering questions. The points are there and I don't focus on them.

The points are just a cheap physiological trick to give us a sense of accomplishment.

Communicating and getting a kick out of the fact that what you tell other people might be useful/is considered valuable. So, feeling valuable, maybe?
