Just wondering if anyone considers the morning after pill to be a form of abortion.

So the pill comes in 2 parts to be taken 12 hours apart, what if only 1 is taken?

NO.

The morning-after pill is a form of contraception, NOT abortion. Abortion is the removal of an "embryo or a fetus".

The morning-after pill changes the physiology of the uterus in such a way that the fertilised egg is not surrounded by a favourable environment so that it develops INTO an embryo or fetus.

That is the reason why the morning-after pill has such a strict time period (72 hours) in which it is effective.

No, it's not a form of abortion. The morning after pill (otherwise known as Plan B) is a form of birth control. It's purpose is to prevent the woman from releasing an egg, therefore preventing the sperm from fertilizing the egg, and the egg then implanting in the uterus. If there is no fertilization of an egg, there can be nothing to abort. Plan B is often mistaken for RU-486 (the abortion pill), which is actually used *after* an embryo has formed and is implanted, and therefore *is* non-surgical abortion. Plan B works exactly like the birth control that it is, simply administering enough hormones to prevent the release of an egg, just in time (with in three days of sexual intercourse) to prevent fertilization.

The pill either does one of three things

1. Ovulation is inhibited, meaning the egg will not be released. -Not Abortion.
2. The normal menstrual cycle is altered, delaying ovulation. -Not Abortion.
3. It can irritate the lining of the uterus so that if the first and second actions fail, the egg does not attach to the uterus. Not Abortion. If the egg does become fertilized , but cannot attach to the uterus then you have a very early and a I mean a very early form of abortion.

It CAN act as an abortifacient. If it prevents ovulation, there is no egg to be fertilized and pregnancy is prevented. However, if fertilization occurs, the morning after pill can prevent the newly conceived baby from implanting in the womb when he or she is approximately 7-10 days old. When a woman takes the morning after pill, there is no way to tell whether she has prevented pregnancy or aborted her child.

If you have already taken one of the pills, please do not take the other. This will increase the chances of your child's survival if you are pregnant. By the way, I know of at least one baby who survived the full dose of the morning after pill. See:

It is not a form of abortion. It is simply a high dose of birth control that makes it impossible (though in some cases in isnt effective) for an egg to be fertilized and implanted into the uterus.

I am against abortion but i don't believe that pill is equal to abortion. It's pretty much just preventing you egg to be fully fertalized. I took it after a man forced himself on me. The Bible believes in the blood. Their isn't any blood flowing yet and it doesn't even have a heart beat so i don't believe that it's killing anything.

How can you abort something that does not exist except perhaps as an ovum, but mostly not even that. The pill prevents implantation of an ovum in the uterus, but it is probably not even there.

no, because nothing has even been formed enough to be considered a foetus..or a actual living thing...don't feel guilty about it, its there as precaution. but if you are, then you should use protection beforehand.
