Is it having more responsibility?
Learning more about yourself?
Having more independence?
I'm trying to work it out because I'm 17 and sometimes I feel like 14. I'm going to be 18 in september and I want to feel like it. So I'm asking everyone out there what it is. Also do you have any life experiences that made you a man/women.

Learning from my mistakes

Oh sweet thing, life is like an onion, the more layers you peel away, the more you discover.

At 20 I thought I knew everything about everything, At thirty I thought the 20 year olds thought they knew everything about everything but I knew better. At 40 I did not care what I knew cos I felt life had passed me by and I was really too old to know anything. Now I am 50, which must seem really old to you, but trust me, nothing makes you more mature, I can still be a fool and a ***** and I can still learn lessons from friends of any age.

I dance with 20 year olds, I am amazed at why 30 year old friends can stay up all night and still go to work in the morning, I wonder how 40 year old friends look after 3 babies really well, even though I would be impatient!!!

Maturity, like most things in life is a sense of being, a reality check on who you are or who you aim to be.

What makes you more mature?

Life baby, growing each day and learning from others, experiencing the good and the bad and adding it all to your briefcase!!

Desire, wanting to be a better person, wanting to give kindness and not hurt others, this is what makes you mature, selfless, ambitious, kind and non judgemental, be the person you desire to be and you will be the most mature person in the world.

Well I would say you sound very mature as it is, maturity is just something that happens through life's experiences and it will come to you bit by bit on a daily basis, nothing really prepares you for the things that make us grow up quicker, they just generally happen, I wouldn't worry too much if I were you, just enjoy your life as it is and watch yourself grow because of your experiences, have a fantastic 18th birthday and be happy.

I think its definitely life experiences and learning from your mistakes. Some people seem so mature then you realise its because they have gone through a hell of a lot, i felt immature till i was about 21 cos i was a late starter in life and hadnt done or experienced much. Feel quite worldly wise now at 31 .

well I agree with you toltally im 21 and I still feel like a kid absolutley

what do you think I like searching around for jobs worrying about moeny I want to do all the cool things all the time , going out , riding bike

but its life that we have to deal with that makes us want to be resonsibe, but we are still who we are, we have to do things like a job to be sensible so we look employeable

we are our age and we do things according to our age , because we have too, other wise im still glad to go on a swing in the park , chuk berrys next door its only because im still young not huge adult with 6 kids, even maybe they feel like younger to , its the resonsiblity you have that makes you older,

example if one brother is 16 and another is 22 the 22 years old is staying at home playing computer games , but is wiser than the 16 years old because of the 6 year gap, but the 16 year old is going out 9-5 everyday for a job , who will look more older in the eyes of their mother the 16 year old , because he is being responsible.

so be responsble I couldnt say dont be resonble as being responsible you have many respect, always enjoy your self too,
you have every right , and try not to think to much of being older because you aint and it gives you a hard time be what you are and relax and take things slowly , and remember always start being resopnble and yes you do learn alot about youself and as you get older the good thing is you have new abillies

good luck I hoped this helped

Enjoy being young for now - being 17 - 18 you are allowed to feel young and immature.
I feel like 20 and am 25 - having a mortgage and a child makes you grow up - if it wasnt for those I would still feel 16 myself I think.
Just be happy and make the most out of your life without bills to pay.

in my opinion the only thing to make u more mature is urself. its a lot about learning making mistakes and at the time u think ur life is a disaster and u will never b able to move on but in time u will see that its part of life to make mistakes and tho u may not c it at the time things that get u down or make u feel like its not worth it do in fact make u stronger and change u for the better.

what a question..

i'm turning 26 monday and i still feel in some ways 18 especially when out with friends, but then the work i do requires a lot of responsibility and dealing with very professional people and expressing maturity is very important (i dont always feel it)

Life experiences include moving out of home, buying your first shopping for your weeks food, ringing home

You feel as old as you want to...

dont worry you'll get there

I only really felt mature once I got to 26. That was AFTER I became a mother, and should have known better.

Its the experiences you go through that make you wiser, and losing my mother made me realise that people were more empathetic to me than I ever gave them credit.

Not a good way to learn though.

And nearly losing my daughter made me see who and what is really precious in this life.

Ultimately, the only person that can answer that is you.
For me,I think defining maturity is a very hard thing to do.It's kind of like defining what is Human.
The things you mentioned can be used to define it but I think it has more to do with self-confidence and the ability to accept people for who they are, not what you want them to be.
We all have to follow our own path to maturity and it's a learning process every day.One thing I have noticed is that we all wish we were kids again.I guess it's because we wish for a return to those simple days of carefree play.Sometimes being mature can suck, big time.

I guess life makes you mature. I was a fairly young mum, so I guess that responsibility does have something to do with it. But then everyones different. I wouldn't want to rush into being mature, it sucks! Be young, care free and childish for as long as possible!
