Hypnotism is effective as an adjunct to regular psychotherapy. You can obtain a degree in hypnotherapy, and it is well accepted in the psychological and psychiatric world that hypnotism is genuine. However, in common with all mental therapy and psychiatric remedies, there are no guarantees that it will "work". As much as anything else, it very much depends on what you mean by "work". Can people be hypnotized? Yes. Can anyone be hypnotized? Yes - if they *want* to be. Can they be made to do things against their will? No - but a person's morals and desires can be manipulated over time by implanted suggestions such that their morals and desires change to the point that what was formerly unacceptable now becomes acceptable.

There's over two hundred years of scholarly study into hypnotism. We all slip into hypnotic states, which is when our conscious mind either switches off, gets overwhelmed or is distracted, and the subconscious takes over your actions. The classic example is when we drive for miles, but don't remember the journey. We're carrying out complex actions the whole time, but we're not actively aware of it. Hypnosis puts you into that state, where the subconscious accepts suggestions without the conscious filtering it. Incidentally, stage hypnosis *is* real hypnosis - the hypnotist effectively overwhelms the conscious with a combination of anxiety and a desire to please the hypnotist and the audience, so the conscious turns off, allowing suggestions to be made directly to the subconsious, which then runs the body.

Hypnotism is a long standing effective therapy recognized by The American Medical Association. An interesting example of medical research involving hypnotism was Carl Jung's (Sigmund Freud's friend back in the 1880's) exploration of regressive therapy and the collective consciousness ( REALLY fascinating stuff). Also, hypnotism is used medically to assist smokers who want to quit the habit. There's all kinds of uses for this therapy. There is a slight tendency for the therapy to be more effective of people with higher intelligence and susceptibility to suggestion. And, try some of the excellent self-hypnosis tapes or cd's that promote relaxation and lowers blood pressure.

Yes it can, but it depends on what you are thinking of as hypnotism.

The hypnotist and the subject have to have a large degree of trust and the subject must be willing to follow all the instructions given willingly, and that is the key.

You cannot hypnotise someone against their will or force them to do something that is completely not in their nature. The subject has to trust and give consent for the hypnotic session to work.

What hypnosis does is open up your sub-conscious mind, so that the hypnotists can help you to access mental resources that you may not consciously be aware of. Your entire perception of reality is shaped by your sub-conscious mind. accessing this allow the hypnotist (with your consent) to alter how you interpret your reality and your experiences.

Hypnotism, when used to implant psychological anchors and triggers and positive perceptions, is a VERY powerful tool and can work miracles.

OMG yes!!! I have been hypnotized and have hypnotized myself! And with incredible results. The subconscious mind is so powerful to your everyday choices and awareness... Hypnotism is simply the manipulation of the "programming" contained within the subconcious mind. You can accomplish this by meditating upon a particular action or thought you wish to change about yourself. You must see it for all that it is, bring it to the light of your full awareness. From this place you can break it down into understanding and reason with it and replace pieces of the mindset to rearrange it into a more suitable concept or value.
-Focus on the problem you wish to change.
-continue to look at it for as long as you must, maybe for multiple sessions
-You will eventually come to an epiphany, a full understanding of what is going on within you.
-When everything is lined up in light of your awareness, you can begin to change it by replacing the source(s) of your problem with catalysts for a desired outcome.
-Later you can reinforce this by seeing your new choice within yourself.
-watch the results.

If you have a particular issue that causes you to be interested in hypnosis, perhaps I can assist you with possible causes and some strong ideas that can replace whatever might be responsible. I have dealt with so many issues of my own, you might be suprised at how much I can offer.

Yes
I hypnotized a girl into seeing an ugly couple naked every time she hears a doorbell.
She almost got fired where she bar tended because every time she heard the service bell for the waitress to pick up she would start laughing and they thought she was drunk.
Telling them I hypnotized her did not help

If you're familiar with hypnosis, then you've no doubt heard of Master Hypnotist Steve G. Jones. His book, "Ultimate Conversational Hypnosis" has been voted as the best hypnosis course ever made. The book is also available in electronic format at: http://www.hypnosistocontrol.net

If you want to get an edge in everyday communication and lead other people towards your goals this is a must read.

hypnosis is real. theraputic hypnosis is effecutal given that the client chooses to change in the area addressed, trusts the hypnothearpist, and the dynmics between the two result in good rapport. It is not magic and like all psychological procedures it does not have the same effect on everyone. If you are motivated to be hypnotized and have good results, very often you will. take it from somone who does hypnosis as part of his living.

Perhaps it cannot work if your mind resists the hypnotist. Often, the hypnotism works because we love fun and willingly submit ourselves to the sways of the hypnotist.

yes hypnosis works..but unlike what others believe, hypnosis can only work if the person being hypnotized is willing to undergo hypnosis. that's why sometimes hypnosis doesn't work for other people. you have to be a submitting subject for hypnosis to take effect on you. that is the only way for hypnosis to work.
