I have been asked by my boss to come up with the meaning / explanation of an "upside-down rose" as a sex sysmbol.

Well, a yahoo search doesn't help, as he tells me there is a name for it, starting with an "S" and it could in another language, like Latin...

I know nothing about the inversion. But the rosebud itself is a symbol of the vagina. This metaphor is used in the movie Citizen Kane.

Edit for elaboration: Orson Welles based the movie off of Howard Hughes. Rosebud may have been a sled in the movie, but it is directly refering to Mr. Hughes' secret pet name for his wife's organ.

No, Wells based the character of Kane off of William Randolph Hearst. The newspaper magnate, and grandfather of infamous SLA terrorist Patricia Hearst. Do the research.

Do a Google or Yahoo! search on "inverted rose" -- dozens of sites will come up.
