I have one layer, text over graphics. The graphics are non-solid colors/patterns/images.

Is there any application/feature name that will allow me to remove the text and replace it with pixels by averaging the surrounding pixel values?

Can GIMP do it?

Thanks

The tool names in Photoshop that can accomplish what you are looking for are called
- Clone Stamp (this is the one I always use for this)
- Healing Brush
- Patch Tool

Try looking at the Gimp feature list and see if they have something similar. Basically what these tools allow you to do is select an area as the 'source' of the color/patern then select another area you want to cover up, which is what you are looking to do.

EDIT: I just saw on the homepage of Gimp that one of the summer code projects is to create a 'Healing Brush Tool' for the app. Not sure if this is complete yet though. Also, I noticed in a screenshot what looks to be the same icon as the 'Clone Stamp' tool in photoshop.
