US public opinion was, like European, overwhelmingly opposed to the war. The prize of Iraq's resources is still at stake, and those who are gearing up to take on contracts in the region are now praying for a governable Iraq. Community, family, childhood and freedom are luxuries which really only those with big guns behind them can afford. It's a de-facto world.
