Thanks for responses so far some useful stuff there but let me explain a bit more.
The secret service wants a teacher to spy on one of his students who they claim is a terrorist. The teacher is just a normal guy who doesn't want to do this, and has no reason to believe his student is evil. How can an MI6 operative convince/ force him to spy?

They must believe that to spy is to save family, friends, and their way of life. The must have deep rooted feelings for the country they live in; those feelings must be used as a form of brain washing. They must be convinced their efforts would for the betterment of mankind.

The other method is by giving them money. The Americans, who have been caught spying, did it for money. Their greed was the factor that got them caught.

Good and original question!
"The teacher, whomever he/she is, should follow their heart and head to solve the "spying" delimma."
Facts: (1) A teacher is taught to teach not spy; however, should a student make threats of violence known, the teacher has an obligation to report it to relevant authorities.
(2) The premise, that an official agency representative would ask a teacher to spy on a student, is not realistic. Agencies have much better means to spy on students if that is their objective (they just don't need an amateur to endanger themselves and some student they were told to spy on).
(3) Even you, who asked this question, must consider working on an engine like google and/or yahoo to look up agencies capable of doing the work. You may find the manpower and technical resources available to our spy agencies, is second to none should they need to employ them.
If necessary and you are unable to find information to bring light on this subject beyond your question, feel free to contact me for URL's.

Tom Clancy used this acronym I like.

MICE

Money - They get paid to spy
Ideology - They believe in the cause they are helping by spying
Conscience - They feel guilty about what the people higher up are doing
Ego - They feel they are better than their superiors

If the reason for spying is valid, then i don't think you have to convince anybody.
